Corinth Pipeworks Orders JCOE Large D...

Corinth Pipeworks from Athens, Greece, has signed a contract with SMS Meer, Germany, for the supply of a JCOE® large diameter pipe mill for longitudinally welded pipes. With this investment, Corinth Pipeworks is expanding its product range in order to meet the growing worldwide demand for high strength pipes for oil and gas extraction and transit.

The new mill will be able to produce Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded pipes with outside diameters from 18 to 56 inches, wall thicknesses up to 40 mm and pipe lengths up to24.31 18.3 m in highstrength steel grades up to X100. The annual capacity will be 400,000 tonne.

Jiangsu Province-based Wujin Stainless Steel Pipe Group Co., one of the largest stainless steel pipe producers in China, has announced that it plans to issue 50.5 million shares to raise a total of RMB 448 million ($72.5 million) to fund three expansion projects.

The three projects include a project for the production of stainless steel welded pipes for oil and natural gas transportation with an annual output capacity of 6,000 mt, a special stainless steel pipe project with an annual output capacity of 3,500 mt, and also the upgrading of its research and development center.

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), the only unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) producing specialised steel, sees better market response for coated pipes.The company recently despatched a consignment of coated pipes to NTPC MUNPL (Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd), a subsidiary of the power producer. The total order quantity was for 56.5 km (15,080 tonne) of coated pipes and two km (534 tonne) of bare SW (stoneware) pipes. General Steel Inc. announced Monday that it’s being purchased by Triple-S Steel Holdings of Houston, Texas, for an undisclosed amount of money.

Henry Oliner, president of Macon-based General Steel Inc., said the board’s plans to sell the company have been in the works for about a year, while negotiations with Triple-S Steel Holdings began about six months ago.

“The shareholders decided it was time to sell General Steel, so we started the process of making inquiries,” said Oliner, whose father, Joseph, started the company in 1956. “We wanted to put ourselves in the strongest hands we could find, and I think we’ve succeeded.”
