Metinvest To Supply Large Diameter Pi...

The Oil Ministry of Iraq included Metinvest Group into its list of certified suppliers of large diameter pipes manufactured from internally produced pipe-making plate.

The move followed Azovstal Iron and Steel Works and Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant passing the final qualification stage, a technical audit by Iraqi’s state-owned South Oil Company.

Now that Azovstal is an Iraqi certified supplier of pipe-making plate, Metinvest Group can participate in Iraqi state projects to build oil and gas pipelines and supply pipes fabricated from internally produced pipe-making plate. The Company can also sell flats to other pipe mills that wish to supply products to Iraq.

OAO Severstal announced that it has won a tender to supply about 160,000 tonnes of 813 mm diameter pipes for the second string of the South Stream Offshore Pipeline. The pipes are to be manufactured by the Izhora Pipe Mill, a part of Severstal’s Russian Steel division. Murray & Roberts (M&R), the listed construction and engineering group, has sold its wholly owned steel pipe manufacturing business, Hall Longmore, to private company Afgate Properties (Pietersburg) for R444 million.

M&R yesterday reported it had concluded the disposal of Hall Longmore but did not disclose the identity of the buyer.

The Competition Commission confirmed yesterday it had approved the transaction last week, but with employment conditions, because the proposed transaction would result in job losses. In terms of these conditions, the number of job losses at Hall Longmore was reduced to 95 from 178.

A deal for a Vallourec Star sister company to build an $81.5 million steel-pipe threading plant in the city is expected to be finalized today. (March 13, 2014)

The city’s board of control is to vote on an agreement with the company, VAM USA LLC.

The company plans to hire 84 full-time workers by next year with an estimated payroll of $2.9 million to $3.7 million, according to its tax-abatement application.

The agreement proposal was put on the board’s agenda at the request of the company, said city Finance Director David Bozanich, who sits on the board of control with Mayor John A. McNally and Law Director Martin Hume.

EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger is to delay talks with Russia over the South Stream pipeline project, aimed at importing Russian gas via the Black Sea. His spokesperson reported that the EU executive had to take into account broader political developments, including the Crimea crisis.

"I won't accelerate talks about pipelines such as South Stream for the time being. They will be delayed," Oettinger told the German daily Die Welt.
