Nucor Buying Gallatin Steel for About...

Steel company Nucor is buying Gallatin Steel Co. for about $770 million, which will expand Nucor's footprint in the Midwest.

Taking out an anticipated tax benefit, the purchase price is approximately $630 million, the company said on Monday.

Nucor is purchasing ArcelorMittal and Gerdau's respective 50 percent stakes in Gallatin Steel. Gallatin's flat-rolled products mill is in Ghent, Kentucky. It has an annual capacity of about 1.8 million tons.

Melewar Industrial Selling Steel Unit...

Melewar Industrial Group Bhd (MIG) has proposed to dispose of its 100% stake in Melewar Steel Tube to Mycron Steel Bhd for RM70mil cash consideration.

MIG reported the corporate exercise would involve issuing 104.545 million new shares of 25 sen each in Mycron at an issue price of 44 sen per share amounting to RM46mil.

There were also be a novation of debt by MIG to Mycron in relation to an amount owing by MIG to MST amounting to RM24mil.

MIG said the disposal price was based on the equity value of MST, as appraised by an independent valuer, FHMH Corporate Advisory Sdn Bhd, ranging between RM60mil and RM71mil in its letter dated Aug 18.

Two pipe manufacturing companies on the Gulf Coast have been contracted to make several tons of large diameter pipe for a natural gas pipeline project in Texas.

Mobile's Berg Spiral Pipe and its sister company Berg Steel Pipe in Panama City, Fla., subsidiaries of Germany's Europipe Gmbh, will jointly produce some 480,000 net tons of pipe for Energy Transfer Partners.

The more than 600 miles of pipe needed would be the steelmakers largest order in its 35-year history, officials said in a statement.

Dominion Resources, Duke Energy and other partners are proposing a $5 billion natural-gas pipeline to connect the Southeast with the prodigious supplies of natural gas being produced in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

Gas is being relied upon to generate more of the nation’s electricity in recent years because enormous new domestic supplies have drastically lowered its price and because natural gas burns cleaner than the nation’s other most-important fuel for electric power, coal.

A recent boost in natural resource development in the U.S.has paid off big for Panama City-based manufacturing company Berg Steel Pipe Corp.

The company recently secured the largest order in its 35-year history, one that will ensure continuous production at both Berg Steel Pipe inPanama Cityand Berg Spiral Pipe in Mobile,Ala., through 2015.

US steelmakers are cheering the recent finding by the International Trade Commission that they’ve been harmed by cheap imports of steel used in oil and gas exploration.
