Unison has commissioned what is believed to be the largest all-electric tube bending machine ever produced, at Newport News Shipbuilding - supplier of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines to the US Navy.The machine is capable of generating over 265,000 lb-ft (360,000 Nm) of torque and can bend piping up to 8 inches NPS - with an outside diameter of 8.625 inches or 219.1 mm - with Schedule 80 wall thicknesses of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm).The availability of all-electric, servomotor-controlled bending machines for pipes of this size brings significant productivity benefits to the fabrication of a ship's pipework compared with conventional hydraulically-powered machinery. Evraz Pumps $200 Million into Regina ...

Evraz North America is making its biggest investment ever — a $200-million, 100,000-tonne-a-year, large-diameter pipe mill —  at its Regina location, company president and CEO Conrad Winkler announced here Tuesday.

“(It’s) our largest single investment in North America,” Winkler told a news conference near the site of the new mill. “This investment, which is completely funded by Evraz North America, will secure our position as the highest-quality, lowest-cost integrated producer of large-diameter pipe in North America.’’

Sutor Technology Group Ltd., one of the major China-based manufacturers and service providers for fine finished steel products used by a variety of downstream applications, has announced that its subsidiary, Ningbo Zhehua Heavy Steel Pipe Manufacturing Co. Ltd., entered into a new contract to supply approximately 3,000 tons of large-diameter submerged-arc straight seam welded pipes for a dredging project of Saudi Arabia National Oil Company.

Ningbo Zhehua has received a payment deposit and expects to complete product delivery in the middle of April 2015.

An Abu Dhabi conglomerate plans to develop a Dh1.1 billion steel plant that will create 370 jobs.

Senaat, the state-owned Abu Dhabi-based holding corporation, said it has entered a joint venture with two Japanese steel makers to build steel pipes for industrial use.

The plan for the new company, Al Gharbia Pipe, comes as the emirate accelerates its push to diversify from crude oil.

JFE Steel and Marubeni-Itochu Steel are joining Senaat in the project to manufacture steel pipes for customers in the energy and construction industries at a plant in the Khalifa Industrial Zone of Abu Dhabi (Kizad).

Abu Dhabi's General Holding Corp (Senaat) and a Japanese consortium are jointly investing 1.1 billion dirhams ($300 million) in a steel pipe manufacturing facility, seeking to meet demand in the Middle East's energy and construction sector.

Senaat, a major state-owned investor in Abu Dhabi industry, will hold 51 percent of Al Gharbia Pipe Co while Japan's JFE Steel Corp will own 27 percent and Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc will have 22 percent.

Low global oil prices have forced Tenaris' Mexican unit Tamsa to reduce steel tube production by 10%-15% this year, the company said."Due to the drastic fall in the American and Canadian markets caused by the global situation of the oil price, we experienced in the first two months of the year a reduction between 10-15%," the steel tube maker said. Dominion Reaches $400M Agreement for ...

The proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline now has a manufacturer.  The proposed 42-inch, 550-mile natural gas pipeline will be produced by Dura-Bond Industries, pending approval of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Dominion Resources announced last week that it had reached a more than $400 million agreement with Dura-Bond for the steel pipe’s production.

If approved by FERC, the pipeline would run from Harrison County in West Virginia to Robeson County in North Carolina, cutting through Virginia with a lateral extension through Chesapeake.
