Tods Aerospace has completed an 18 month project to develop lightweight, damage resistant composite fuel pipe assemblies that can be used in composite aircraft fuel tanks.

The project was part funded by the UK National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) and supported by Airbus Operations. Technical Fibre Products (TFP), Element Materials Technology and ENL were contributing partners.

The adoption of composite fuel pipe assemblies has the potential for weight savings over metallic equivalents. However further weight and cost reductions are possible by op ...

SMF UK Increases Cutting Speed with t...

by tubelinks on 11/14/2014 - 04:13 pm
Tag: Product Release

Leicester-based sheet metal fabrication shop SMF UK has installed a new laser system that can cut tube up to 9m long and 250mm in diameter.

The machine, a Trumpf TruLaser Tube 7000, replaces an existing Trumpf machine and gives SMF 3-4 times faster loading and set-up. SMF is a 10-man subcontract fabrication shop with a good spread of work that includes everything from electrical control cabinets and machine guards, through to architectural metalwork and parts for spacecraft. Formed in 1990 by current Managing Director Steve Morrison and his brother, the company had been running its old machine successfully for many years.

“The machine was still very capable, however, the advent of ...

Tag: Product Release

A new version of the TubeWorks tube bending CAD/CAM software, which now provides tubular metal fabricators with powerful pre-production tools for laser cutting as well as tube bending, is available from the tube bending machine manufacturer Unison.

Developed by the software consultancy 3DCompound, TubeWorks is a specialist add-in module for the popular SolidWorks mechanical CAD package. By combining powerful visualization capabilities with automatic code extraction and file generation, the software enables metal fabricators to substantially increase the productivity of their tube handling operations through optimal use of manufacturing data. The time that it takes to develop programs for CN ...

Zumbach’s BENDCHECK Assures Straightness

by tubelinks on 08/25/2014 - 05:04 pm
Tag: Product Release

Absolute straightness is one of the concise quality criteria in the production of round bars and pipes. BENDCHECK – the precision laser measuring system from ZUMBACH monitors bending continuously without missing any sections directly within the production process.

This replaces the ODAC® laser measuring heads used currently to manually spot test with a non-contact online test for bending. Apart from the obvious gain in quality the manufacture also saves considerable time through the use of the online date check.

What can BENDCHECK do

Synchronous real time scanning in the production process

Quality assurance directly after the straightening process

Direct integration in th ...

Higher-Productivity Tube Bending to b...

by tubelinks on 07/24/2013 - 08:32 pm
Tag: Product Release

The tube bending machine innovator Unison will be demonstrating techniques for increasing the productivity of tubular parts fabrication at Fabtech. Throughout the show, users will be able to see demonstrations on an all-electric Unison machine capable of bending tubes and pipes up to 3.5 inches in diameter.

Unison employs numerous advanced techniques to help manufacturers to increase throughput and quality, and eliminate the potential for errors and scrap. One of the techniques is an innovative quick-change tooling system that dramatically speeds tooling changeovers. Covering all of the tooling components on the machine, it includes barcode identification to verify the changeover process. A ...

Tag: Product Release

The manufacturer of all-electric tube bending machines, Unison, has opened a new facility in Scarborough, UK. Purpose-fitted for machine design and manufacture, the building more than doubles the production capacity of this fast growing company, and accelerates machine building times by around 15%.

"The new facility has allowed us to expand every major department in Unison - we now have more software and hardware development engineers, and more manufacturing and sales staff," says Alan Pickering, Managing Director of Unison. "Our investment positions us well to cope with the growth in demand that we have been experiencing, as well as our projected expansion into new markets that we are targ ...

Tag: Product Release

Unison has received an order from Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), the supplier of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of two shipbuilders of nuclear-powered submarines for the US Navy, for an all-electric CNC machine capable of bending large-bore tubing and piping up to eight inches in diameter (219mm OD). The machine will be the first of its type ever built, extending the shipbuilder’s range of precision software-controlled bending facilities to include fabrication of larger diameter pipes that previously could only be bent on very high torque hydraulic machines. Unison believes that it will be the largest and most sophisticated all-electric pipe bender ever designed.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners will buy natural gas pipeline operator Copano Energyfor $3.22 billion to tap into growing demand for infrastructure to transport vast supplies from the shale fields of Texas and Oklahoma.

Private equity firm TPG Capital, Copano's top shareholder with a stake of more than 14 percent, will get a 41 percent premium to its $300 million investment made in 2010, if the deal goes through.

The deal is the latest in a flurry of multi-billion-dollar takeovers in the U.S. pipeline industry over the past two years as companies rush to cash in on a shortage of pipelines to move gas and gas liquids such as ethane and propane.

Ukraine's Interpipe Launches $700 mln...

by tubelinks on 10/05/2012 - 05:23 pm
Tags: Press Release, Product Release

Ukrainian pipe maker Interpipe will launch production from a $700 million steel mill by November that will fully meet its own steel needs and may even produce a surplus that the company will sell, Interpipe reported.

At the moment, Interpipe, which is controlled by billionaire industrialist Viktor Pinchuk, purchases steel from local or Russian producers to complement its own output.

The new facility, which started construction in 2007 in the city of Dnipropetrovsk, will produce 1.32 million tonnes of steel per year using an electric furnace from scrap metal generated by Interpipe's pipe- and railway-wheel-making facilities and also procured externally.
